Metabolize: A Practice for Courage

If your nervous system is all over the place these days, you’re not alone. Your news feed is full of escalating violence. Your own life has been expanding, contracting. You’re opening to courage, and meeting grief.

I’ve been returning to Tonglen practice in these times. Tonglen is a Tibetan Buddhist breathing meditation designed to strengthen our capacity for courageous compassion. It’s part of the training of becoming the peaceful warriors the world needs.

I’m offering a small-group practice in my home on Monday and I’d love for you to join me.

We’ll practice somatic and restorative yoga to tend your body and nervous system (discharge stuck energy and allow yourself to feel). There’ll be hands-on massage in restorative poses to really let yourself be nurtured.

I’ll teach Tonglen and we’ll practice it together.

And I’ll lead you in a guided journaling to give you space to integrate the knowings of your courageous heart.

You’ll leave remembering softness and strength can coexist, and that love is the only force big enough to transform fear.
