Darkness is natural on the earth.
As we approach the winter solstice, the gardens — shedding their color, drying to husks — invite us to remember that we too need periods of turning inward, before we renew.
For many of us, the winter season is a time when we are asked to find a deeper relationship with the dark inside ourselves — the aching, exhausted, disconnected parts we all carry.
As the days grow shorter than the nights, do you get a little more lonely? Do you find yourself reflecting back on where you’ve been, wondering if you’ve done enough?
What if you could lean into the opportunity of winter: honoring this season in your own life with the support of nurturing fellow travelers?
Night Travelers is a four-week ritual to honor the wisdom of letting go. We invite you into co-creation of a warm community where you will be held and reminded of the light within you.
Over these four weeks, you’ll develop skills to intuitively find your way through the dark, build self trust and community, and integrate the wisdom of your deeper knowings to manifest more of your light in the world.
We’ll meet on Monday evenings in Hannah’s warm and welcoming apartment in Germantown. On dark, chilly nights, you’ll start your week with mugs of tea, snacks, laughter, tears, and heartfelt check-ins.
Here’s some of what you’ll practice:
Manage overwhelm through grounding in Earth’s cycles as metaphors for your inner processes
Create inner safety as you are witnessed and witness others in authenticity and vulnerability
Connect with the seeds of light hidden within what’s uncomfortable through somatic and emotional awareness, mindfulness and other practical skills
Hear your inner guidance and learn to distinguish it from other voices
Be inspired by friends, songs, poetry, and ritual to lift your spirits

Night Travelers is a distilled version of a group we offered over 16 weeks last winter. Here’s what some participants had to say about their experiences:
“I just feel so grateful. Stepping into the darkness and being curious about what’s there has led to major shifts in my life. I have a sense that the foundation is being built underneath me, and that’s something I didn’t have ever in my life before, and it feels calm. It feels deliberate, peaceful. We have created something beautiful here together.”
—deanna, former Search the Darkness participant
“Search the Darkness was one of the most nourishing and transformative things I’ve ever done for myself. The care, depth, attentiveness, and thought that Sarah and Hannah bring to their work was so meaningful to receive. I felt like they both really took time to plan each session, to be present, and they have an incredible ability to deeply listen to each of us. The container these sessions created allowed me to enter parts of my brain and body that I don’t normally reach on my own. I would find myself sharing words that felt so succinct and clear that I couldn’t believe they were coming from my own mouth. The space had a special way of gently pulling us in without force or rush, and allowing us to go deep deep within safely. I really found the wintering metaphor incredibly poignant and helpful for the period of time I was going through and it gave me permission to be inward and not external or growth-focused for a little bit when I needed that slowness. Grateful for this space and hope to take part again in the future.”

Hannah Sadtler
Life Coach, Collective Trauma Co-Facilitator, Host of Practical Mysticism salons
Hannah Sadtler believes it’s possible to live a life filled with joy. She is a Life Coach with over 7 years of experience supporting individuals as they transform their lives, a former professional garden designer, a certified Collective Trauma Co-facilitator and a woman with a deep personal practice of welcoming and transforming the darkness within herself. One of her greatest pleasures is discovering the gifts and possibilities hidden in challenging situations.
Her interest in the healing potential of relating to the dark began at an early age when she realized that playing the villains in make-believe games made her less afraid of them and helped her deal with her own anger. Hannah’s extensive training in the intersection of mysticism and trauma healing with Thomas Hübl since 2017, and her continued studies with other modern-day mystic teachers, support an ongoing process of learning to love all parts of herself. She finds that loving others — in their light and shadow — develops naturally and joyfully from this practice all the time.

Sarah Kowalski
Artist, Yoga Teacher, Creator of Entering the Cave series
Sarah Kowalski has this way of seeing your potential before you do. Like one of those divining rods sensing water, she seems to see the direction your soul is tugging, and nothing thrills her more than helping you connect dots you hadn’t known how to connect, listen to your own arising wisdom, and feel your way towards the next foothold on your unique path.
Sarah is a lifelong writer whose struggles to understand her own writer’s block led her down a path of yoga, Buddhist philosophy, somatics, and mysticism. She has taught yoga for over a decade, specializing in restorative yoga and 1:1 sessions. A life-altering concussion in 2020 opened a new path as a visual artist, and Sarah’s obsessions with embodied healing, neuroplasticity, and creative channeling coalesced into Entering the Cave: Sacred Practice for Artists, a series designed to foster community, inspiration, and transformative miracles among artists and creative people facing their next block or pushing against their next edge.
Search the Darkness
Sit with your friends; don't go back to sleep.
Don't sink like a fish to the bottom of the sea.
Surge like an ocean,
don't scatter yourself like a storm.
Life's waters flow from darkness.
Search the darkness, don't run from it.
Night travelers are full of light,
and you are too; don't leave this companionship.
Be a wakeful candle in a golden dish,
don't slip into the dirt like quicksilver.
The moon appears for night travelers,
be watchful when the moon is full.

Please reach out and talk to us! This is a group experience, so your participation and presence is vital. We understand that there may be a week during the course of the series where life has other demands, but if you anticipate missing more than one week, this may not be the right time.
Should you miss a week, we will be sending an email after each week’s session with poems, readings, and notes on the practice.

If you’ve read this far, and you’re feeling an inner yes, then you’ll be in the right place.
We’re planning on having an individual intake call with each person who applies, to learn more about your goals, answer any questions, and make sure you feel like you’re in the right place.
We also know from experience that some diversity in a group — people of different ages, experiences, and backgrounds — is a profound opportunity to grow and expand our sense of belonging.
All of you — including the parts that are skeptical, resistant, or identified with being an “outsider” — are welcome here just as much as the parts that are believers, enthusiastic, or ready to “belong.”
-
Yes! You’ll be in good company, among fellow deep souls who are also doing a lot of inner work.
What we know well is that even when you’re very self-aware, when you’re pushing into your next edge, you’re inevitably meeting places you haven’t fully explored.
For most people, discerning the voice of the higher self from the voice of the inner critic can get confusing at times — a group will offer more perspectives, help inspire you, and increase your access to the type of information that can support you.
